Not all medical professionals are apprehensive about penile exercising.
Some, like Dr. Richard Howard II, actually embrace it with open arms. He has been both a motivation and a lighting rod of support since I first talked to him nearly two years ago.
Dr. Howard wrote the introduction to Exercising the Penis and has one of the most motivational success stories I’ve ever heard. He lost over an inch with a topical cream that caused Peyronie’s and gained it all back and more (totaling over 3 inches gained in length and 2 inches in girth).
How does a doctor go against conventional wisdom and gain so much? I’ll let Howard tell you in his own words . . .
Can you give a quick overview of your professional background?
I have a bachelor’s in biology and economics, a master’s in public health and in biochemistry and a doctorate in public health and all course work up to a doctorate in biochemistry from Tulane University.
My main professional motivation was to determine methods of developing optimum health. It occurred to me that if you’re healthy you can live life to the fullest, and that was really the beginning of my health awareness.
Through exercise, supplements, proper diet, and inputs via a meditative and spiritual nature one has in place the predisposing elements for optimum health. I wanted to be an integrated individual that is healthy, energetic, with minimum stress and maximum mental acuity, and to be able to share this practical and useful knowledge with others for their own self improvement.
Did that have any ties to why you started penile exercising (PE)?
Yes, PE is part of wholeness and integrity of the individual. There seems to be a need in human nature to partition things or have either or, but in my view you can integrate it all - like in the principle of bodybuilding, which should logically include PE.
Eventually, through experiences I became aware of the sexual pizzazz factor. As a result of certain experiences and awareness’s, I began to realize sexuality and the physical tools involved counts in a substantial way in the dimension of interpersonal romantice. For example, all things being equal women with sizable breasts would generally have somewhat of an advantage in romance.
Overtime, I came to the conclusion that this would be most likely true in men as well. If all things were considered equal, the man who was most endowed would have more sexual pizzazz.
How did you get into PE?
I read about the Chartham method and tried that. I gained about a half an inch. After that, there wasn’t much for roughly 20 years. I did use vacuum pumps, but I never felt they worked particularly well in gaining any further than a half an inch.
In 1999, I ran across the Jes Extender and gained 3/8 - 1/2 an inch there in six months. It was a simple and ingenious device and the scientific literature on the extender showed significant results in a trial with this device.
By that time, I had an increase of 3/4th an inch in total.
I then applied a particular formulation that I thought would be theoretically helpful. It turned out that it was a very potent collagen synthesis cofactor and can cause collagen to grow out of control. It resulted in Peyronie’s disease and loss of an inch and a half. It ruined my whole afternoon, and maybe a few months to a year or two.
I went back to the Jes Extender and it simply didn’t have sufficient traction to correct this problem. It was like a tractor trying to pull a Mack truck out of a mud pit. Even though the extender says it can help Peyronie’s, it didn’t help in this case.
Where did you find your answer?
I explored the Internet and stumbled upon Thunder’s Place, which had a rich array of information.
I tried the BibHanger, which is a tool that would be skittishly thought about by many. It is a collar that you can attach to the penis and hang weights. I believe that with careful application it would have the traction to pull out the crimps caused by the atypical Peyronie’s disease.
Hanging was trial and error for me, but it began to work as I progressed in the learning curve which includes knowledge and fineness of right wrapping, the right warm up, the right settings and the slow addition the weights over time. If you don’t, you can have an occasional injury that usually clears up in a day or two to a week. The BibHanger site provides all the information one needs to effectively learn to use the ingenious device and make substantial gains.
How much did you gain?
After a period of time, I was able to pull out the collagen crimps and get back to my pre-Peyronie’s length. It was off and on for a while after that.
Then Katrina hit. I live in New Orleans, so I used PE as a way to cheer myself up. I started various methodologies ranging from jelqing to hanging to pumping.
The tissues in my penis became stronger and I gradually increased my length an extra 2.5 inches in length and 2 inches girth - bringing my current size to 8.25″ X 6″.
Through personal reflection, as a scientist, insights are continually occurring to me as to developing progressive advanced routines for those who wish extraordinary gains.
What tips do you have for men trying to repeat your success?
Always start warm. Whether it is in the morning upon awakening in bed, when you’re already warm, or using a traditional warm up. Study as much as you can, from your book, Penile Exercising Gym, Thunder’s Place, and BibHanger.com and others.
When it comes to stretching, make sure you stretch in all directions - up, down, and all around. The idea is to hit as many angles of the penis causing constructive stress in different areas.
Start with the manual PE moves as illustrated in your book which should yield adequate gains. If one wishes more than mechanical devices such as the BibHanger can be considered. There is always a risk/reward consideration. Also participate in all the health promoting dimensions one can such as diet, exercise, supplements, low stress, and a positive/spiritual outlook.
What about girth?
For girth work, make sure you put pressure on the base so that the anterior section expands.
There are various ways in doing it. I use an overhand grip so that I can get as close to the base as possible. For jelqing, gripping the base is important as well especially if the goal is girth.
Do you think that trying to do too much too soon tightens up the collagen?
Yes, that’s a function of being obsessive about PE. Doing too much causes contraction and a defensive response. That’s the way collagen deals with it.
You have to go at it easily, stay warm, do different variations and try to maintain tissue looseness.
I’m not a fan of the V-stretch or hanging in a V-configuration, as the strain it causes on the dorsal nerve concerns me. I don’t like to put a lot of pressure on the nerve and feel it’s dangerous, so I’m more of an advocate of the A-configuration.
*Aaron: Stay tuned for Part 2, where Dr. Howard talks about the future of PE and gives more insight on how he added over 5 inches to his penis. In the meantime, here are some related posts:

Great post! I love how this segment of human anatomy is starting to slowly gain medical and doctor approval. Not only with approval by doctors through independent research but also through their own personal experiences. This more than anything, is the most important aspect of getting widespread acceptance of PE. It seems like Dr. Howard is very ingrained into the PE world and really knows his stuff! I really hope more doctors (esp. Urologists) are willing to do studies and convince the rest of the medical world that PE works. Their common stance right now is only a negative one to PE and should be changed soon. Perhaps it is the money aspect that doctors are afraid penis exercising hurts? PE is only possible through surgery they think… of course that just-so-happens to make them lots of money as well… surprise, surprise.
Wow I am impressed! Thinking of how much you lost and then how much you gained is nuts! Glad to see there is a doctor on the positive side of PE!
It’s refreshing to see that more medical professionals are coming out and embracing the facts about PE. Dr. Howard, you have my utmost respect. I look forward to reading more from you.
I have to say that this is really great to actually have a doctor talking about this! Doctors seem to have a stick up their ass about PE for some weird reason. Probably what Bill said is right, they just want the money from surgery!
@Joey: I don’t think it’s the money for the surgery. I think they genuinely believe that PE doesn’t work. As Dr. Howard said, it’s hard for people to let go of what they have been taught.
@Big Al: I completely agree. I admire Dr. H for taking another giant step in getting PE out in the open. I think it’ll be within the next 5 to 10 years when that fire is really going!
Great interview! I’m looking forward to Part 2.
Dr. Richard Howard: I’m curious, what ‘potent collagen synthesis cofactor’ did you apply to your penis? I only ask because I want to make sure I never to use it!
I am very interested in the last few paragraphs.
When Dr. Howard says that collagen can contract from doing too much (a defensive response) could someone ellaborate. Is this too much intensity, to much volume, not enough rest and are we talking about the response to one “too much” session or a culimnation of “too much” over a period of weeks and months?
Tissue looseness is also intersting. Now from this I take that stretches should be eased into, never going at it full on straight off the bat. Gradually getting more intense, and even then I think to maintain looseness extreme intensities should be avoided. Correct me If Im wrong.
Finally Can someone explain the V stretch Vs A stretch. I do a version of both I think and I like them both. I just stretch out the shaft and bend it slightly in all directions about a pivot point (my thunb or the edge of my hand). I think it stretches the tunica more.
Thanks

The name of the product is Microhydrin, a potent antioxidant. When used as directed I believe it is a very good product per anti-ageing. It consists of reduced hydrogen (H-) in a proprietary blend containing Silica hydrate. The reduced hydrogen has 2 electrons instead of its normal molecular configuration of one electron. It freely donates the extra electron once orally ingested to participate in repair, maintenance, and energy metabolism of the body. However, if you take the powder and make a concentrated solution and apply to the penis multiple times a day, the collagen in the penis will go “wild” and cause atypical Peyrone’s disease given the fact that a primary structural element in the penis is collagen.
“When Dr. Howard says that collagen can contract from doing too much (a defensive response) could someone elaborate. Is this too much intensity, to much volume, not enough rest and are we talking about the response to one “too much” session or a culimnation of “too much” over a period of weeks and months?” by scientific approach
Excellent question!
I am going to give you an empirical answer rather than biochemical one. The parameters are time, temperature (warm up) and intensity as the primary variables in eliciting a defensive response from collagen. Collagen is dynamic not static, therefore if you challenge the penis which is substantially collagen, the collagen views this as an injury. It responds once you reach your threshold of “excessive time/intensity” and a re-alignment results in a stronger structural pattern on an acute basis and mild contraction. Since collagen is “fluid/dynamic” once you back off it will “”flow” to its normal configuration. Visually if you have over done your PE regimen you will notice a slight contraction per length and circumference. Key concepts here are self awareness-intuition, and the learning curve that develops and refines your self awareness / intuition . PE is like any learning endeavor, such as the piano, golf, bodybuilding, cardiovascular- in each of these activities you in time will develop self awareness and intuition that resonates to you when you have had enough for that particular day or week.
” Tissue looseness is also intersting. Now from this I take that stretches should be eased into, never going at it full on straight off the bat. Gradually getting more intense, and even then I think to maintain looseness extreme intensities should be avoided. Correct me If Im wrong.” by Scientific approach.
Stretching is a gradient, again the degree of intensity is learned and observed over time. Start safe and easy, then build up. Let me give an example: Bigger of the BIBHanger has suggested that high intensity can be initiated using incremental weigh addition such as 2 lbs added each week never to the point of pain. Eventually you do get conditioned to perform high intensity training once yourself awareness/intuition and experience can safely support such an endeavor. He has suggested that high intensity results in micro collagen tears and growth (for more details check out BIB Hanger.com). The message here is start off light, learn, that incrementally SAFELY increase intensity. Warm-up heat and tissue conditioning over a period of time results in a predisposition to a greater degree of looseness. Operative words- self awareness/intuition/learning curve. Hope this clarifies.
“Can someone explain the V stretch Vs A stretch. I do a version of both I think and I like them both. I just stretch out the shaft and bend it slightly in all directions about a pivot point (my thunb or the edge of my hand). I think it stretches the tunica more.” by Scientific approach.
V stretch results when you penis assumes the shape of a V by stretching it out and pushing down with your thumb, or a several inch diameter padded “stick” . The A is just the opposite. V pushes down on the major nerve tract called the dorsal nerve- I would avoid any substantial down pressure directly on this major nerve fiber.
Now you can see why I like to use the phrase “The alchemy of PE”
Thank you.
Sorry but this is bullcrap. Any guy from thundersplace knows that such gains are impossible.
Hello,
Nice blog, I just found it and I’m already a dedicated reader
I recently went down 30 pounds in 30 days, and I want to discuss my weight loss success

Hi Dr.Howard.First off I want to say congratulations on the very impressive gains, and that you are truly an inspiration(among many others) to people like myself who engage in penis enlargement.I have a question or two to ask of you if you don’t mind. OK,1. when you did hanging with the BIB could you describe and mention how long you did this for and if you used other techniques like jelquing along with the hanging ,and what specific things with the jelq technique did you use(if you did use this)?2. Also did you PE on most days or did you take time off? Thank you.
I want to expand a little on the “collagen gone wild.” Collagen and elastin are the elements in skin tissue that prevent wrinkles and sagging. Think of them as as rubber bands that attach from the surface of the skin to the muscles that are several layers deep. You can firm up you penis using collagen, but there will be shrinkage if part of your length is sagging tissue.
Since no one wants a flabby penis, this can help if your size is not an issue. If it is a matter of size, then penile exercise is definitly the way to go.
A very interesting read - especially seeing some of the negative feedback from those who have commented. Realistically it is actually possible to increase the length of your penis by 1-3 inches simply by using the right penis enlargement exercises, in fact its been proven for many years and from many cultures that have hung weights on their penis as a method of penile enlargement. Penis exercises are simply a less dangerous alternative!

So I have a question .. should we NOT put silica based products, like a silica gel product that helps produce collagen elasticity on the skin of the penis?
